Sophia Shek

about
Sophia Shek loves a good script and a challenge. Their passion for storytelling has taken the Scottish-HKer producer across the globe, working on a diverse mix of commercial and independent projects.
In Hong Kong, Sophia collaborated with Hollywood heavyweights, serving as Assistant Director to Oliver Stone (Snowden), Michael Bay (Transformers: Age of Extinction), and Alan Taylor (Thor: The Dark World). Their portfolio also spans commercials for Cathay Pacific, Adidas, and Microsoft, as well as music videos for artists such as Super Junior and Reik.
Committed to independent film, Sophia has explored queer and diaspora identities through projects like I Miss You When I See You and Go Back to China, both featured at international film festivals including SXSW and Melbourne Queer Film Festival.Alongside filmmaking, Sophia curates and supports cultural initiatives at the intersection of queerness and creativity, from the Hong Kong Lesbian and Gay Film Festival to Women’s Festival Hong Kong.
Recently, they were named a director of Planet Ally, a queer and non-binary-led organisation.
When not on set, Sophia can be found playing tennis, sipping whisky (without an “e”), or watching sci-fi. They split their time between Hong Kong and the UK, actively working on projects worldwide.
